We are staying at the Grand Hotel and it's very impressive .
It's quite an old building with furniture and fittings reminiscent of our stay on the Queen Mary.
We went for a walk on the prom (as you do) and really liked the place.
There was some of the old bathing huts nestled in the corner of the beach.
For dinner we went to Restaurant 1881 which is in the hotel and run by the well known chef John Burton Race. We chose the set menu and opted for the hake as the main course, the food was superb and the portions just right.
Tuesday. Today we went for a drive to Salcombe the weather wasn't great and it seemed to take a long time to do the 20 mile journey. Salcombe is a small fishing village that has grown in popularity due to a number of TV programs being filmed in the area. Parking was a real issue and the streets were so narrow we were relieved when we managed to find a car park that had a couple of spaces free.
We had a wander round the shops in the narrow streets - the shops had a definite nautical theme and seemed to cater for sailors or "would be" sailors.
We stopped for a bit of lunch at the Crab Shed.........
......... and shared a seafood platter that included crab, smoked mackerel, fresh anchovies, prawns and smoked salmon and our new vegetable taste samphire. - we washed it down with an interesting French white which name escapes me - yummy !!
