We had a very slow drive to Nantmel which is near Llandrindod Wells - the traffic was exceptionally heavy around Newtown where they are doing some extensive roadworks.
We arrived at The Grange just before 3pm and gained entry as per our written instructions. This was to be our "home" for the next week before we return to OZ. We were soon joined by Geoff in his campervan, the rest of the family are due to arrive sometime Sunday so we are ratting around in this big house.
It looks very impressive from the outside, however the gardens need some tidying up.
On the inside the rooms are large and comfortable but rather like the outside the place needed some tlc and a good dust and vac all round - a bit disappointing really as the house has loads of potential.
We might start calling the place The "Grunge"

After getting our bearings we headed off to the local pub for dinner - me and Geoff had steak while Sue had gammon. We told the chef the steaks were "chewy" so as consolation I got my Guiness for free.
Saturday
We went into Llandrindod Wells this morning for a scout around and to get some provisions at Tesco. The place is an old spa town so there are quite a lot of grand hotels from days gone by - I think the visitors going there for spa treatments are probably on the wane.
I came across a rather interesting vine growing up the front of one of the big hotels - we don't know if it grew grapes though as there was none visible.
After doing our shop we went back to The Grange for a light lunch.
After lunch we headed in the opposite direction from this morning to the town of Rhayader to check the place out. Rhayader has a nice village feel to it and it certainly has more than its fair share of pubs - which is nice.
We went for a walk by the river for some exercise - it was very pleasant, the river was not running as fast as it usually does due to the recent dry spell we have been having.
We then dropped in at The Crown for a swift half before heading off home.
Don't know the Welsh to English translation for this establishment!!
Shades of "Escape to the Country" Just love it. We couldn't even buy a paper here on a Saturday or a coffee! Someone said the pub was closed! Coles were doing grocery deliveries & a highlight for the locals. Off to Emerald today & a Woolies! Yay! Have run with your family. Bev & Allan.
